Entry for June 15, 2007 Mr Dresscode's Friday Chuckle !!

A little old lady answered a knock on the door one day, only to be

confronted by a well-dressed young man carrying a vacuum cleaner.

"Good morning," said the young man. "If I could take a couple of

minutes of your time, I would like to demonstrate the very latest

in high-powered vacuum cleaners"

"Go away!" said the old lady. "I haven't got any money!", "I'm

broke!" and she proceeded to close the door.

Quick as a flash, the young man wedged his foot in the door and

pushed wide open. "Don't be too hasty!" he said. "Not until you

have at least seen my demonstration." And with that, he emptied a
bucket

of horse manure on to her hallway carpet.

"If this vacuum cleaner does not remove all traces of this horse

manure from your carpet, Madam, I will personally eat the

remainder.

The old lady stepped back and said, "Well I hope you've got a

Damned good appetite, because they cut off my electricity this morning."

Entry for June 13, 2007 My Lucky Days !!

Today the birds are chirping merrily from atop the trees and the brook behind the house is babbling softly by on its way southward so I feel like joining in unison with them by blasting out my deep feelings and love for the woman with whom I am sharing all this , Her Fluffiness Herself !! Some folks might wait for a special occasion ... but I have chosen today.... one of my lucky days !! It was My Lucky Day the day I met her .... and since then my days have been getting successively luckier .

P.S. The singer in this song is a beautiful young girl from Swedish Lapland , Frida Snell , and I am sure that were this song heard in North America it would become an immediate hit.

Entry for June 11, 2007 Swedish Oranges !!!

I'm not much for eating chips .... nor , for that matter , any other fatty junk food ..... while watching TV and internetting after supper in our computer nook. My snack(s) of choice has/have always been an apple followed by two or more oranges between sundown and bedtime. One day last week Fluff was heading out the door on her way to the supermarket when I remembered that I was out of oranges.... so I asked her to bring me back a peck or so of my favourite agrumes.

When Dateline came on at 8 o'clock I decided to go fetch myself an orange to peel...... the peeling of which is an art form in itself as , like Tom Hank's deceased wife in Sleepless in Seattle , I peel mine in one fell swoop ( hers was an apple though!). Moreover , when cutting my nails ..... always outdoors , never indoors because of my rigid Catholic upbringing..... I purposely leave the nail on the right thumb longer ......... makes for much more artistic peeling ! Now back to last Thursday evening . I reach my hand into the bag and haul out a nice big one and to my surprise I noticed that it fit into my hand more like a softball than a hardball !! The peel felt smoother than usual so I brought it up under the sink light to get a better look and could read on the sticker STAR RUBY...... our very well-known brand of pamplemousse or GRAPEFRUIT !! Her Fluffiness had brought me home a peck of Swedish oranges !!!

I didn't say a word and peeled it infront of her here in our nook as I usually do .... then extended my right arm offering her a good sized wedge of the delicious fruit......which she graciously accepted and put into her mouth....... and then full realization of what she had bought came home to roost !! We had a huge chuckle over this wee adventure.....

P.S. Whenever I ask Fluff to bring back pears , apples , oranges or nectarines she obsessively fetches back either five , seven or nine units ..... never four , six , eight nor ten !! Buying objects in even numbers seems to be against her religion. Luckily she is limited by the obvious and Nature itself when buying shoes , gloves and glasses !!

Entry for June 06, 2007 In The Beginning Was The Word !!

Fluff and I lead a rather intense life here in our wee woodsy haven......not intensely euphorous nor sad , neither intensely glamourous nor plain , neither intensely hilarious nor dull , neither intensely philosophical nor intellectual.......... yet intensely loving and caring for both each other and likewise for our fellow travellers with whom we share this marvellous planet .

Now as Fluff is in the process of polishing up her masterful achievement of becoming " oh so able and competent " in the English language and I after so many years away from it ...... are living our daily lives literally "glued" to each other .... and especially here in our wee computer room ........words have become the tools or stimuli to comical relief between us as well as stepping off stones to other more serious subjects such as literature , history , politics , geography , religion , semantics .. etc One little word can start a chain reaction!! And with the TV blasting away at us all the time ..... whether we are watching or not.....our minds risk being aroused .... contaminated....by almost anything heard from the likes of CNN or BBC all the way " up " to The Sopranos or Trailer Park Boys.

Some of my old " Li'l Moron " jokes have also proven to be somewhat worthwhile in demonstating word meanings and pun activity in English . For example , the one about the two l'il morons in jail and one of them had smuggled in a flashlight and a file. The barred window was way up beyond their reach so the smarter one says to the dumber one , " After lights out I'll flash a beam on that window up there and you shinny up the beam and saw the bars!"....... to which the less brighter one replies , " No way ! You're not going to sucker me in ! I'll get half way up the beam and you''ll turn out the light !" With these two meanings of "beam" we might chat up a wee storm for a while ... not mentioning its corresponding verb " to beam " in such instances as " Cindy Anne's , Celeste's and Barb's faces beamed with pride as each one laid eyes upon her respective tomato patch , varnished beams in the cabins and newborn grand-daughter. It may sound corny but quite often we can spend a good hour engrossed in such utter misery......... but loving every minute of it !!!

In closing I'll simply mention an ad on TV for Scotia Bank... a Canadian financial institution... now expanding into the States . Fluff and I both love it !! The ad shows two little brothers wandering through their home in the dark , the younger one following the older one .... lights out and flashlights beaming ......the "littlest" brother asks the older one , " Whatya doin' ? " to which the older boy answers , " Lookin' for equity.." " Equity.. ?", querries the wee one. " What's that?" . " I dunno " , replies the older boy ... " but Dad says it's leverage and that there is over $ 100 , 000 worth in this house and I'm gonna find it !!"

June 01, 2007 Hybrid Dahlia " Vuurvogel " (firebird) or Texas NIghtmare

.
.We spent most of the day arranging flower boxes around the sundeck and along the gallery railings. I have about 40 dahlias still in pots whereas a dozen foot high ones have already been put in the earth in my front garden. The gladioli... about 60 all told .... are waxing beautifully and pushing skywards..... although still in pots as seen in video show above. There remain 6 or 7 small gardens here and there throughout the backyard to be allotted their own varieties and maybe 6 more hanging baskets from the trees to brighten up the whole shebang.
