Usually I write a thematic blog but during the Summer months I have decided to change my style and do a little reminiscing about old TV shows and movies , songs , golden oldies etc and a few odd sundries that some of you might remember and can relate to. The following is one of my alltime favourites....... Jackie Gleason in the Honeymooners' The $ 99,000 Answer !!
Poor Ralph Kramden , much like his counterparts in comic relief ..... Daffy Duck , Sylvestre Cat , Yosemite Sam , Fred Flintstone , Hagar etc .... provides the chuckles by being the victim of his bloated ego and his own stupidity.
I love that show. Wish they had reruns on of it again. I tape Alfred Hitchcock every nite. It is fun to see some of the big stars when they were so young! Two others I wish were back are WKRP & Barney Miller. Thanks for the memories!!
ReplyDeleteSo many laughs from the Honeymooner foursome ... Ralph , Alice , Trixie and Norton !! and all this in Ralph's kitchen normally !! I loved Barney Miller too.
ReplyDeleteTo the moon, Alice. hehe.. My parents were big fans so that was part of family viewing. Another one we all adored was Red Skelton. I miss the old fashioned variety shows. Cheap to produce and lots of talent. So much more appealing than those silly idol and dancing star shows.
ReplyDeleteHaha.. even Front Page Challenge should get revamped.
Sometimes you can catch some of these old shows on TVLAND. I know they still show the "I Love Lucy" shows and even some Carol Burnett and Flip Wilson. It's just the hours of broadcast aren't always agreeable.
ReplyDeleteI watched so many of these shows with my parents. We all loved them. My father was particulary fond of when he sent Alice to the moon. LOL
ReplyDeleteWonder what the kids would think today if there were shows like this?
Me again! I was also going to say that Amos and Andy was another favorite of ours.
ReplyDeleteHey Barb... yes , those were enjoyable hours spent with those loveable characters... so few props , yet so much slapstick humour that we all appeciated back then ..... hoping that Spring is treating you and yours gently ... and yes , I too loved all Red Skelton 's personages.. my favourites were Freddy The Freeloader and Clem "Kadiddlehoffer "???? LOL
ReplyDeleteHi , Jim.... all the names you mention summon up many hours of laughing and fun back when TV was in its infancy...
ReplyDeleteHey Cindy... I never saw Amos and Andy on TV... only listened to them on radio...and for kids today I do not think they could survive one half hour where there is nothing else thyan talk... and the whole thing takes place in a small drabkitchen..... but it was all new to us and we lapped it up like a cat with milk. Hugs !
ReplyDeleteMy father was not a tv person, but he always watched Jackie Gleason and Lawrence Welk!
ReplyDeleteToo much time between blogs......if you stopped killing frogs with chlorine, you would have more time to enlighten and entertain your many fans......
