This is an old snapshot of my Dad and his cronies from the late 1920s .....early 1930s. It could very well be a scene from the 1967 movie "Bonnie and Clyde ".... clothes , hairstyles and the old getaway car , the McLoughlin Buick , in the background. My Dad in front row with hat and glasses.
I love pictures like this. What a crew. So well dressed!
ReplyDeleteLove the hair do of the man on the left....your dad has a serious business look about him and the guy in back with the cigarette and holding the ladies looks like a party animal. Wonderful picture.
I love them too , Cindy Anne... That's "Red "Joyce with the hair split down the middle.... and Dad DOES look a bit "Dapper Dan "......... and Seaneen McGrath is the guy with the cigarette hanging from his lips... Uncle Mack McIwaine and Aunt Oona beside Dad. I knew them all....
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic photo. I always wanted to live in the 1930s to 40s & be a Gilda type woman --- only with a nice man. I love the clothes, cars, homes from that time.
ReplyDeleteI have a photo of my grandmother who in later life always looked so stern. In this photo she was a teenager with a group of girls in the park, laughing & picnicking. Nice to see she had a fun side.
Well , Julie Ann.. I grew up in the 40s with all those frills and have seen quite a few changes since my birth back in the 30s... with no TV I certainly read more back then. I really get big kick from these old pics and have oodles of them ...... Hugs !
ReplyDeleteI have tons of them also. All a treasure.
ReplyDeleteI thought the same thing when I first spied this photo. "Bonny & Clyde" then I remembered, "No, everybody looked like that back then." (c;
ReplyDelete"Red's" hair style was still popular when I was in high school in the 50s. In fact one place I worked in the 70s there was a couple of guys with that hair style. We used to call it "split-head" but not to their faces. **LOL**
People did tend to look sterner in photos of that era but I have to remind myself they probably had to sit still for 2 minutes for the picture to take. Even I remember those black box cameras and I'm glad they're gone. (c;
Thanks for the very a propos comment , Jim.. yes , everyone did look like those in the photo back then. Good gravy , yes ! The old box camera ! When I left home for the minor seminary in 1949 my Mom gave me one of those and 25 films... and that's mainly why I have so many personalized snapshots of those days in Brockville , Ontario.. 1949 to 1955. The camera had a lever on front right side I pulled or pushed downwards to take a picture. How far we have come since then , eh ? Snowing intensely here today so we are spending a quiet day at home ! Cheers !
ReplyDeleteI just love old photos. Being a bit of a genealogy freak they are a great support for tracing my roots. The problem is I have collected so many and they are so old that over the years (almost century) we just don't know who are on them. My grandmother had 11 brothers and no-one left in the family now knows who is who. As for the box camera - yes I have one - see my blog
ReplyDeleteHey there , tabbynera.... I have been delvng into my own family tree of late ( blog on Jan. 12th ) and have gone back to Ireland and Isle of Jersey ... circa 1800 so far ... and that is about as far back as I wish to go for now.. I've been rather lucky in identifying folks in pictures as many names were either written in somewhere or I happen to recognize them from my own past or even had them identified by my parents before they died. I shall be climbing and shaking my Mom's family tree in the near future.
ReplyDeleteVery nice old photo! =o) I agree with you, it sure do look like it could be from an old movie! Wonder who would be Bonnie and who would be Clyde though? lol
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing =o)
Fluff and I are a bit too old for the roles , Mona.... and I don't have a Thompson submachine gun either !! I have the hats though !!! LOL
